Clarksville, TN (CU) - The APSU Football team has placed 4 players in the HERO 2020 Sports Preseason FCS All-American Teams. The announcements were headlined by 2019 All-American Kordell Jackson, who is expected to lead the way for the Gov's 2020 season.

The additional Governors receiving the All-American honors were, receiver DeAngelo Wilson (first team), offensive lineman Blake Mitchell (third team) and defensive lineman Josephus Smith (third team) also received honors.

in 2019, Kordell Jackson led the OVC with seven interceptions last season, while returning two for touchdowns. He was responsible for 10 of the Govs 25 forced turnovers. He also had 47 tackles last year with eight tackles for loss.

Wilson put together the best season by a receiver in program history, finishing with 89 receptions for 1,564 yards and 15 touchdowns — all APSU records. He had eight 100-yard games and was the first Govs receiver to average more than 100 yards per game since Lanis Frederick in 2006.

Mitchell, a Nashville native of Brentwood, was the center for an offensive line that helped the Govs post record-setting offensive numbers in 2019. Austin Peay led the OVC in scoring (34.5 points per game), third-down conversions (42.1 percent) and fourth-down conversions (62.1 percent), while the offensive line allowed just one sack per game — eighth-best in the NCAA.

Smith reeled off 18.5 tackles for loss, including eight games with multiples TFLs. He also served as the focal point for a run defense that led the OVC and ranked eighth nationally, allowing just 104.1 yards per game.

Austin Peay is ranked No. 13 in HERO Sports FCS Top 25 Preseason Poll and scheduled to open its 2020 season in the Guardian Credit Union FCS Kickoff game against preseason No. 10 Central Arkansas on Aug. 29 in Montgomery, Alabama.

The Govs first appearance at Fortera Stadium will be on Sept. 12 in their OVC opener against UT-Martin, which also received votes in the HERO Sports preseason poll.
